Key Tests for Motor Windings

Motor stator coil manufacturing (using single or multiple wires) is prone to various faults: Connection errors, output errors, coil wire diameter errors, coil unit reverse embedding, incorrect turns count, poor insulation between surge, surge short circuit, poor insulation between phases, phase-to-phase short circuit, poor insulation between the winding and the core, winding-to-core short circuit, reverse embedding, etc.

To deal with the above adverse conditions, the motor coil tester has the following test items to choose from:

1.  DC Resistance Measurement:

Measures the DC resistance of each phase winding. Identifies incorrect wire gauge , severe shorts, open circuits, and excessive turn count deviation.

2.  AC Hi-pot Test:

Applies a specified high AC voltage between windings and the core for a duration to verify dielectric strength. Detects insulation breakdown risks or short circuits.

3.  Insulation Resistance Test:

Applies a DC voltage between the winding and core to measure insulation resistance. Evaluates winding-to-core insulation integrity, detecting leakage currents or potential shorts.

4.  Surge Test:

Applies a high-voltage impulse with specific waveform across windings.It can effectively identifies surge insulation failure, shorts, turn count errors,reverse coil embedding, and wiring mistakes through comparative waveform analysis.
